A Good Idea: Sugar is Back

After the breakup of Hüsker Dü and a couple of stellar solo releases, my favorite musician, Bob Mould, teamed up with bassist David Barbe (Mercyland) and drummer Malcolm Travis (Human Sexual Response, the Zulus) to form Sugar in late 1991. They created distinct, powerful melodic music that had an immediate impact on the early 1990s alternative music scene, propelling it forward.

The band is best known for their perfect debut album, Copper Blue (1992), but all of their releases were truly special. Whenever “Tilted” pops up on a playlist, I usually say to myself, “Jeff, this might be your favorite song ever?” Very true, Jeff, very true.

Well, good news for Sugar fans, the boys have gotten the band back together, put out a new ripper, and have scheduled some shows for 2026. I’m excited.

For the uninitiated, you can read more about them here and enjoy this collection of videos.

Some Sweet Vids

I rarely ever push any of my favorite music on my kids. I love that they like what they like and discover stuff on their own. That said, a couple of weeks ago at dinner, my 17-year-old asked if I had ever heard of sugarcopperblue.com.

(💨💨me running down to the basement to grab these…)
